What’s new about Fax over IP

Sending a Fax over the Internet can be compared to Voice Over Internet protocol (VoIP) except that the signal is optimized for the transmission of fax data. In general the behavioral pattern followed by IP fax transmitted across the Internet is for the fax data to be directed to a strategically located fax server close to its final destination. From this point the fax data is transferred onto standard telephone lines where it continues its journey as any normal fax. A financial saving to the sender occurs because the total cost for transmission is significantly less as a result of the major part of its journey being on the Internet.

Fax is the transfer of data by dialing a phone number traditionally and transmitting the data electronically. So when you fax data, you have to dial a phone number and pay the charges for the time elapsed during which the data is sent through the fax. Now a days, fax can also be sent over the internet without paying anything for the task. FoIP is an acronym for Fax over Internet Protocol.
